Family Service League (FSL), established in 1926, is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, community-based human service agency helping Long Islanders in need. FSL touches the lives of more than 50,000 each year through its broad array of 60 programs at 20 locations. Our comprehensive network of care serves infants to elders through children and youth education programs, senior services, vocational training, family support counseling, mental health, integrated healthcare, substance abuse programs, and housing and homeless services.
FSL’s unique program model includes strategically based family centers that provide a continuum of care that addresses the multitude of challenges facing today’s families and is a lifeline for our most vulnerable residents. Located in Bay Shore, Huntington Station, Riverhead, and Mastic Beach, these facilities embed a spectrum of vital services in the communities where people live and work.
Developing alliances has become a hallmark of FSL’s leadership and vision in its goal to build networks of care for those in need. These include the management of a Suffolk county homeless shelter that provides housing for 400 individuals every day. Another effort developed integrated health care, which makes it possible for clients with complex behavioral health difficulties to receive mental health and substance abuse counseling and primary care services in one location. Working with local school districts, FSL is the largest community-based provider of universal pre-kindergarten in Suffolk county. FSL recently partnered with Southside Hospital Northwell Health for a new health and wellness care facility being constructed on the South Shore.
Our impact and influence are spreading across Long Island thanks to an innovative approach, the commitment of board members and volunteers, and the generosity of our donors. Together, we are realizing FSL’s mission of helping individuals, children, and families to mobilize their strengths and improve the quality of their lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community.
